How to get the most out of your family photographs

Choose where you would like your session:

There are some things to consider when getting the most out of your family photographs. This is the first step in a super awesome, authentic, relaxed family session. This is all about you and your family and what activities are your favorites. Would you like to stay at home, choose some of your favorite activities like board games, cooking, baking, or painting together? Or would you prefer to do an outside activity like hiking, having a picnic, or even riding dirt bikes?

Helpful tip: Ask your family photographer for suggestions on local outdoor locations if you would like to explore with your family. It makes for wonderful images and allows your children’s personality to come through.

Clothing choices:

Clothing textures and colors set the tone for your photographs and film. This is just to use as inspiration for what you might already have in your closet. Clothing can help gain a sense of who you all are individually and together. Unless you’re chosen to have your session in your home, we don’t want shorts on the men. Legs tend to steal the show, and we your legs to be the only ones to do that. We also don’t want everyone in the same colors, because then we’ll just have one big blob of color with floating heads. Not the look you want.

Helpful tip: Reach out to your family photographer to help you plan out exactly what you would like to wear that flows nicely together while also keeping your personality the focal point!

Don’t stress your family photographs:

I know, I know, much easier said than done. But seriously, if you start stressing about the outcome, your kiddos will pick up on that so fast. Stress and perfection is not what this session is about. The more relaxed you are, the more authentic your photographs and film will be, and the more your kiddos will feel free to adventure out and allow themselves to be themselves.

Helpful tip: Please do not bribe your children. It is something that happens and in my experience it doesn’t help the situation, yet almost makes it worse.
